Wed, 28 May 2008 In this episode we talk about the different versions of FTL travel that will take part in the universe. I have already posted descriptions of the two main types that we talk about on the show. We also recap what we meant by what sci-fi is and what fantasy is. We often rip apart things that we do not like in some shows like; Star Trek, Star Wars. Since we grew up with these shows, we like watching them but sometimes the inconsistencies just get to us. When we look at other shows/books and other media, we can see where they have gaps in the consistency. We would like to bridge that gap; even now, Jim and I will be taking another visit on our FTL episode. We will discuss possible concerns that we have come up with and try to refine these things. We would also like it if you would post any comments about your ideas, so that we can see what you think about our ideas, and maybe find something we missed. Here are some things we talk about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physics_and_Star_Trek http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Higgs_boson http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wormhole Let us know what you think. One thought I had when you mentioned using wormholes for faster than light communication was that if you could shoot a coded message through using radio waves, you could also shoot other things through pretty easily, like a laser or a high velocity projectile. Of course if you couldn't quite aim these wormholes correctly, it wouldn't matter as much. But still I'm thinking there has to be some sort of limitation, accuracy or otherwise, that keeps someone with a wormhole generator from sticking a really big gun next to it and using it to pick off ships an planets and the like from halfway across the galaxy.
